Relating Session Types and Behavioural Contracts: The Asynchronous Case

    Get PDF
We discuss the relationship between session types and behavioural contracts under the assumption that processes communicate asynchronously. We show the existence of a fully abstract interpretation of session types into a fragment of contracts, that maps session subtyping into binary compliance-preserving contract refinement. In this way, the recent undecidability result for asynchronous session subtyping can be used to obtain an original undecidability result for asynchronous contract refinement

    Batalin-Vilkovisky Integrals in Finite Dimensions

The Batalin-Vilkovisky method (BV) is the most powerful method to analyze functional integrals with (infinite-dimensional) gauge symmetries presently known. It has been invented to fix gauges associated with symmetries that do not close off-shell. Homological Perturbation Theory is introduced and used to develop the integration theory behind BV and to describe the BV quantization of a Lagrangian system with symmetries. Localization (illustrated in terms of Duistermaat-Heckman localization) as well as anomalous symmetries are discussed in the framework of BV.Comment: 35 page

Erectile dysfunction in men with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

    Get PDF
Erectile dysfunction (ED) seems to be a widespread sexual issue in men affected by chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Multiple causes appear to be involved such as hormonal imbalance, smoking habit, chronic inflammation, endothelial dysfunction, chronic hypoxia, psychiatric disorders (depression and anxiety), and medications. ED can have a significant impact on COPD men and consequently on their quality of life, which is usually already compromised. Given this situation, however, pneumologists usually do not properly care for the sexuality of COPD patients especially because men can be reluctant to talk about their intimate issues. The aim of this narrative review is to briefly summarize the evidence emerging from literature and to provide a wide point of view about sexual dysfunction in COPD men

Graceful Interruption of Request-Response Service Interactions

    Get PDF
Bi-directional request-response interaction is a standard communication pattern in Service Oriented Computing (SOC). Such a pattern should be interrupted in case of faults. In the literature, different approaches have been considered:WS-BPEL discards the response, while Jolie waits for it in order to allow the fault handler to appropriately close the conversation with the remote service. We investigate an intermediate approach in which it is not necessary for the fault handler to wait for the response, but it is still possible on response arrival to gracefully close the conversation with the remote service

On the Integration of Automatic Deployment into the ABS Modeling Language

    Get PDF
In modern software systems, deployment is an integral and critical part of application development (see, e.g., the DevOps approach to software development). Nevertheless, deployment is usually overlooked at the modeling level, thus losing the possibility to perform deployment conscious decisions during the early stages of development. In this paper, we address the problem of promoting deployment as an integral part of modeling, by focusing on the Abstract Behavioral Specification (ABS) language used for the specification of models of systems composed of concurrent objects consuming resources provided by deployment components. We extend ABS with class annotations expressing the resource requirements of the objects of that class. Then we define a tool that, starting from a high-level declaration of the desired system, computes a model instance of such system that optimally distributes objects over available deployment components
